Driving Efficiencies for the Government IT Enterprise

The Federal Government has taken notice of the flexibility, operational benefits, increased efficiencies and substantial cost savings cloud computing can provide.   But sifting through the hype and understanding the true value, security risks and challenges associated with this migration is a challenge for public sector agencies.

Cloud computing is not a single capability, but a collection of essential characteristics manifested through various types of technology deployment and service models. A wide range of technologies fall under the title "cloud computing," and the complexity of their various implementations may result in confusion among program managers.

The decision to embrace cloud computing technology is a risk-based decision, not a technology-based decision. Once the business decision has been made to move towards a cloud computing environment, agencies must then determine their implementation strategy including the appropriate manner for security assessments and authorizations.

This half-day event:

  • Reviewed various cloud service models, including Software as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Infrastructure as a Service (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS)
  • Explored the true tangible benefits of cloud computing
  • Evaluated the risks and challenges to securely use cloud computing capabilities as good stewards of government data
  • Discussed key strategy considerations for moving to a cloud computing environment
