Enterprise Architecture Conference & Expo 2010

DGI's annual Enterprise Architecture Conference, again co-located with the FEAC Institute's Chief Enterprise Architect Symposium, kicked off the event with a Department of Health and Human Services executive panel discussing "Enabling Citizen Engagement and Open Government with EA:  An Agency Experience". Henry Chao, Chief Technology Officer, Office of Information Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, HHS (at podium, pictured right), Mary Forbes, Lead Enterprise Architect, HHS and John Teeter, Deputy CIO, HHS,  gave a "solid discussion on EA across HHS", commented one attendee.  Panelists "demonstrated (an) impressive level of  insight into the practical realities and obstacles to achieving Open Government requirements," said another.

Paul Brubaker, Senior Director, North American Public Sector Practice, Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (left) gave a "superb review of (the) current state of EA" during session "Taking a Broader View of EA to Enable Government Business Operations".

Randy Hite, Director, IT Architecture and Systems, GAO (right) gave a preview of GAO's EA Management Maturity Framework.  "Very helpful to have a sense of what's coming and begin thinking about how EAMMF will be used," said an attendee.  Read DGI's Executive Insight Interview with Randy "Coming to a Theater Near You: Preview of GAO's Soon to be Released EA Management Maturity Framework".

Jim Washington, Chief Acquisition Office with the FAA is an EA proponent, even if he is not an EA architect.  EA helps the agency understand inter-relationships between investments, minimize duplication and is essential to FAA's modernization. "We know what programs are dependent on others and can see the impact of program reduction or delays can have on achieving the overall improvement of systems. So this allows us to better assess tradeoffs of investment decisions," he said, as reported by GCN.  Read the full article here.

Ron Vandiver, Director, Architecture Integration and Management, Army Capabilities Integration Center, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) (right) dressed the part for his session titled "Perspectives on the Value of Planning versus Firefighting".  "Great presentation -- challenged me to think," commented an attendee.
